HONEY helps HEALING

5 reasons to heal with Mesitran

In wounds of low or moderate exudate:

1 Debrides the wound - The osmolytic effect of honey draws fluid into the wound bed and promotes autolytic debridement whilst the dressing maintains and protects the moist wound environment

2 Controls malodour - As well as helping inhibit microbial colonisation, honey contains glucose which, when metabolised by bacteria, produces odourless compounds such as carbon dioxide and water

3 Encourages the healing process - Evidence supports the view that, in addition to its debriding and odour control properties, honey actively promotes healing through immunomodulatory activities and stimulating the formation of epithelial tissue2

4 Choice of dressings and ointments - All the benefits of honey delivered in a choice of three dressings and two ointments

5 Available on drug tariff - No ordering complications, Mesitran is already listed on drug tariff

Honey assisted debridement (proposed mechanism)1

Honey promotes the conversion of plasminogen to plasmin

Plasmin actively breaks down fibrin clots which attach the eschar to the wound bed

The osmolytic action of honey draws further lymphatic fluid containing more plasminogen into the wound bed further assisting the degradation of the eschar
